EXTRAORDINARY NURSE RECOGNIZED AT ASHLEY REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER
January 08, 2026
Maddison Florence of Ashley Regional Medical Center was recently honored with The DAISY Award® For Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation's programs to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.
Part of the nomination submitted reads “Maddie was supportive, comforting, and kept me informed as to what was going on with my care. Maddie was also very kind and considerate of my family who was in the scariest moments of their lives.”
The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, CA, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
Said Bonnie Barnes, FAAN, CEO and Co-Founder of The DAISY Foundation, "When Patrick was critically ill, our family experienced first-hand the remarkable skill and care nurses provide patients every day and night. Yet these unsung heroes are seldom recognized for the super-human work they do. The kind of work the nurses at Ashley Regional Medical Center are called on to do every day epitomizes the purpose of The DAISY Award.”
Said Chief Nursing Officer Grant Barraclough, “We are so very proud of the care and dedication that our nurses give to our community every day. We have many awards that are given to our staff due to being recognized by their peers, but the Daisy award is awesome because the patients and their family members recognize our nurses for their amazing care that is rendered day in and day out. We had 15 nurses that were nominated and some of them multiple times. Maddison was very deserving as our first recipient of the award. She was nominated by multiple patients. We are so very proud of each of the nominees and look forward to being able to receive more nominations for our nurses in the future so that we can continue to recognize them for their continued dedication to our community.”
