Ashley Regional Medical Center Expands Speech Therapy Services

Vernal, Utah (September 28, 2026) – Ashley Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce the addition of Gaven Spears, M.S., CF-SLP, to its Rehabilitation Services team as a Speech-Language Pathologist. Gaven's arrival supports the hospital's ongoing commitment to expanding access to speech therapy services and reducing wait times for patients throughout the Uintah Basin. Ashley Regional Medical Center continues to grow its speech therapy program, a critical service line that helps patients overcome communication, cognitive, and swallowing challenges.
Originally from Craig, Colorado, Gaven recently relocated to the Vernal area with his wife, Teonna, and their three children, McKay, Thayna, and Brayce. He is excited to establish roots in the community and serve patients and families across the region.

Gaven earned his bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University-Idaho before completing his Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Wyoming. Although he originally planned to pursue a career in teaching, he discovered speech-language pathology and quickly developed a passion for helping individuals improve their ability to communicate, connect with others, and enhance their quality of life.
Growing up in a rural community gave Gaven a firsthand understanding of the important role healthcare providers play in the lives of patients and families. He is passionate about helping individuals overcome communication and swallowing disorders while building meaningful relationships with those he serves.
"I've always appreciated the impact healthcare can have in smaller communities," said Spears. "I'm excited to join Ashley Regional Medical Center and work with patients throughout the Uintah Basin. Being able to help people communicate more effectively and improve their independence is incredibly rewarding."
Outside of work, Gaven enjoys spending time with his family and exploring the outdoors through camping, backpacking, and fishing. He is also an avid racquetball player, recently picked up pickleball, and enjoys family movie nights and making memories in his new community.
